handmade / Sharpie mugs

This is one of the easiest DIY projects ever. Seriously.  Sharpie mugs have certainly had their day in the sun, but I've only just gotten around to trying this project out.  After exploring projects on other blogs, it seemed like some people had problems with the Sharpie wearing off during washing.  After reading this post on How About Orange, I decided to try using the oil based paint Sharpies (available at any craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels).

It worked like a charm!  And even better, I messed up and was able to "erase" my marking with a little nail polish remover on a q-tip and redo my design.  These mugs have been used multiple times, been put in the microwave and washed by hand without any change in the design.

I decided to make one a Harry Potter themed design...

and one a Sherlock inspired mug.  :) (the scene this is from makes me cringe and giggle at the same time!)

I highly recommend this project if you're looking for some instant DIY gratification!  Just remember:
- oil based paint Sharpie
- hand wash only
- keep your design away from the lip of mug (where you put your mouth to drink!)

Have fun!
