the little things

Hey Monday!  I'm looking forward to a week with temperatures above zero. No joke, it's been crazy cold here and the winter blues have set in a bit!  But even so, there have been some happy little things around my life lately:

I ordered a copy of Madder Anthology 1 by Carrie Bostick Hoge - I just love all of her designs and the way she takes a single stitch pattern and works variations of it to create sweaters, scarves and other beautiful pieces.

I found one last Rifle Paper Co. temporary tattoo from the pack I bought last summer, haha!

Starting a new sketchbook always make me happy - this one is specifically for my 2015 lettering project!

A sweater sleeve in progress - I just started the Honeycomb Aran pullover from Patons (it's a free pattern!) to practice my cabling before attempting Stonecutter ;)

Knit / Schwimmen Hat

First finished knitting project of the new year:

The Schwimmen Hat is from the Seasonless Vol. 1 Mini Collection by Shannon Cook and Jane Richmond.  It's a perfectly slouch hat with an easy lace pattern that's surprisingly addicting to knit.  Worked in Madelinetosh DK it's warm but not too heavy - and the yarn is as beautiful to look at and work with as other knitters say it is!

I knit the hat in straight size 5 needles since I'm a looser knitter and the fabric relaxed a lot after a short soak.  After drying the hat in the dryer for a few minutes however, it shrunk back to just the right size for me - this has already become a winter staple and I highly recommend this pattern!  I'm hoping to knit up the other two patterns from Seasonless Vol. 1 as well!

inspiration / 2015 Lettering Challenge

I'm starting a new project this week:

In 2015, I'm challenging myself to post 3 lettering projects a week for 52 weeks!  I was really inspired by some other letterers I follow on Instagram - mostly Wetherbee Creative, who is also doing this challenge.  I really want to grow my lettering skills this year and this seems like the perfect way to do that!  I'll occasionally post projects here, but for now I'll focus on sharing those on my Tumblr  and through Instagram if you're curious enough to follow along!

Hello January

I finally have a new lettered desktop/background for you!  I love this verse for the new year - grab your size below & enjoy!

Happy New Year!

I'm taking a little look back on 2014 on this New Year's Eve - and there were lots of good & wonderful moments mixed in with the hard moments...

2014 was the year I found a passion for hand lettering - and I'm hoping to multiply it xmillion in 2015! / seeing Nickel Creek in concert / joining in Me Made May by wearing all of my handmade clothing / taking a quick trip with my grandparents to their home in Montana / visits with friends / seeing my niece grow and grow and grow! / chopping my hair off and knitting my first sweater / meeting my nephew!

I hope you have the chance to look back and see all the blessings around you too - lots of blessings & love to you for 2015!

the little things

Did you have a merry holiday weekend?  It was definitely a merry little Christmas for me, with lots of happy little things:

Knitting up a last minute Christmas (ish) gift / exchanging Rifle Paper Co. cards with a friend of mine - neither of us realized that we both sent each other one of their cards - haha! / repeated viewings of Elf / wrapping up presents with sparkly yarn for bows / this verse has repeatedly popped into my head and I've loved having this little SRT card reminder

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Merry Christmas!

I'm writing a little post to wish you a very Merry Christmas!  I'll be heading to my parents to spend time with family and I hope you'll be with loved ones for the holiday as well.  I'll be honest, this whole season it hasn't really felt like Christmas, but thankfully no matter how we might feel the truth of what Christmas means doesn't ever change.  Christ send his son to be born, live, and die on this earth to redeem & save us - and because of this we have life, freedom, and hope!

I pray you feel His presence this Christmastime - Emmanuel, God with us.
